'People are normally gobsmacked when they see the alley for the first time'
Neighbours living in a Blackpool street have come together to transform their overgrown alleyway into garden for the community. The hidden oasis, known locally as Belle Vue Strawberry Gardens was an idea which was first sparked by Paul Ogden and his wife, Angela, who live on Newcastle Avenue.
"So we got a few residents together who were like minded and we had a meeting when walking down the alley and decided to do something about it. We started clearing it up." The community has grown in the last seven years, and there is now a core group of 16 residents who tend to different areas of the alleyway witch stretches behind Newcastle Avenue.
"People stay a lot longer. People haven't moved as quick. We've let all the landlord and letting agencies know so that they know that there is what there is behind the houses so that they can be respectful. It has made a difference to who comes to the area and how long they stay."
