If you're looking for bucketloads of family fun, sandy beaches and amazing free events on the seafront, then Blackpool is not for you
The familiar technicolour glow of the Illuminations in autumn, that first taste of a Notarianni ice cream sundae and the momentary, breath-holding pause before The Big One drops from 235 feet.According to a new study, that is. Not us. The coastal town is officially a 'faded resort' and has been overtaken by 'reinvented hipster magnets' according to The Telegraph's 'gentrification index'.
The index considered a number of criteria, concentrating on traditional resorts to find out how they have adapted over the past 30 years. The data looked at housing and high streets, renovations and conservation, as well as the cultural clout that so often accompanies gentrification. Blackpool Zoo, with its new Big Cat House, tropical birds, penguins, endangered apes and rare monkeys, giraffes and elephants isn;t an animal lover's dream day out.
You can't play 'who can spot Blackpool Tower first" on the M58 or enjoy a portion of chips and browsing the hundreds of rock flavours in the many gifts shops along the promenade.
