A woman’s body was found in a pond near a Barrington-area hospital hours after she left the hospital mid-treatment and was reported missing, officials said.
Around 7:15 p.m. Monday, Lake County sheriff’s deputies responded to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, 450 W. Route 22, for reports of a woman — later identified as Michelle Riechers, 61, of Lake in the Hills — who was being treated in the hospital’s emergency room when she walked out before being discharged, said Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli with the Lake County sheriff’s office.
Sheriff’s deputies, and the woman’s friends and family searched the area. A sheriff’s canine, Duke, led deputies to the retention pond on the south end of the hospital campus around 11 p.m., Covelli said.Reichers was found unresponsive in the pond just after 11 p.m. She was pronounced dead shortly after that, Covelli said.
“Foul play does not appear to be a factor,” Covelli said, adding that Lake County sheriff’s detectives continue to investigate.
