Adam Boqvist's broken foot clears path for Blue Jackets to recall David Jiricek, their sixth overall pick in the 2022 NHL draft
, was recalled from the Cleveland Monsters to take his spot. Jiricek, 18, was the final cut of training camp after impressing coaches and management with his skating, vision, decision-making and willingness to engage physically in four preseason games.
Rather than sending Jiricek to Europe for another developmental season as a professional in Czechia, his home country, the Blue Jackets assigned him to the American Hockey League to keep him close. The idea was to keep him developing in North America while he waited for a spot in Columbus to emerge through injury, trade or necessity based on NHL readiness.
