Voters who backed the Conservative at the last election would prefer to see Boris Johnson as prime minister than Rishi Sunak, according to a BMG survey for theipaper 🔎 HugoGye explains:
The former prime minister has pledged loyalty to his successor but has remained in the public eye, making a visit to Ukraine last weekend and signing a lucrative deal to publish his memoirs.
“But he has all the right attributes for a party chairman. He is charismatic, he rallies the troops. He’s a sort of fully-loaded Conservative. So I think that type of personality would be a very good one for a party chairman.” Nearly two-thirds of people have seen their living standards decline in the past year as inflation has taken hold. BMG found that 64 per cent of those polled said their household finances had worsened with just 9 per cent reporting an improvement. The proportion of people with deteriorating finances has steadily grown over recent months.
