Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola has given an honest assessment of his side’s chances against Liverpool ahead of their Carabao Cup clash tonight.
It was an early sign of the winning mentality that has been present in this new-look Liverpool outfit throughout the first part of the season, with their only defeat coming against Tottenham Hotspur in controversial circumstances. Meanwhile, Bournemouth have struggled for victories under new manager Iraola, earning their first league win against Burnley at the weekend.
"If we could choose, I guarantee we wouldn’t have chosen Liverpool," Iraola admitted. "Even the weakest teams left wouldn’t have been easy because we are already in the advanced rounds but we still haven’t been lucky. "If you are playing in the lower divisions it is maybe quite good to play Liverpool but being a Premier League team we get the chance to play them anyway,” he continued. “For us , it was different because we weren’t playing in La Liga, so we weren’t playing those teams week to week.
