Denver prosecutors have charged a 15-year-old male juvenile with two counts of attempted murder of a police officer following a shooting last week northeast of downtown.

The shooting happened about 9 p.m. March 21 in an alley between Gilpin and Williams streets a couple blocks north of Manual High School in northeast Denver.

A Denver Police gunfire-spotting system detected 36 shots in that area. When police officers responded, they approached three young men walking, including a juvenile, who disregarded police commands and tried to walk away, police said. A police officer struggled with the teen, who allegedly pulled a handgun and fired one shot from close range at the officer. The officer was not hit, and the teen was taken into custody with the help of other police officers.
