Alamo Heights' Connor Foote takes first place in the boys 100 yard butterfly during the 2022 UIL Region 7-5A Swimming and Diving Championships at Bill Walker Pool on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022.The Express-News named Alamo Heights senior Connor Foote as its Dan Cook Cup Boys Athlete of the Year for a second consecutive year after he put on a dominant performance at the UIL Class 5A state championships last February in Austin.
Foote set a 5A meet record in the 50 freestyle by splitting 19.88 as the lead leg in the Mules’ 200 relay. Foote is the recognized record holder for the distance because he achieved it as the first leg, which is a standard practice in the sport. Foote earned another medal after swimming a leg in the Mules’ third-place finish in the 200 medley relay.
After winning the state championship in the 100 freestyle in 2020 and 2021, Foote dropped the event this year and picked up the 100 butterfly to go for the state meet record.
