Two boys who were attempting to cook food on Padre Island accidentally started a fire that burned 200 acres, according to the Corpus Christi Fire Department.
Fire Marshal Randy Paige said the fire started on Sunday afternoon, north of the Padre Island National Seashore. The fire was fully extinguished by Tuesday afternoon, he said.reported that the boys, 12, were trying to cook on the dunes.
Paige said it’s unknown why the boys were on the dunes and CCFD believes they were by themselves. It was ruled accidental, he said.Corpus Christi, Flour Bluff, Annaville, Bishop, Port Aransas, Aransas Pass and Ingleside fire departments, and Nueces County ESD 2 were among those that responded to the fire.
