Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has finally figured out who is behind the city’s crime problem. No, it’s not the criminals who are committing the crimes. It’s your car manufacturer.
Chicago has filed a lawsuit against Kia and Hyundai because their cars are being disproportionately stolen compared to other cars. Thanks to help from a trend on the Chinese Communist Party-affiliated app TikTok, criminals have learned that Kia and Hyundai vehicles are rather easy to steal. The two companies combined for a $200 million settlement for affected drivers earlier this year, and Chicago wants in on the action.
Yes, Chicago’s crime spree around automobile theft is entirely the fault of Kia and Hyundai and not the criminals who are stealing cars, according to Johnson. So, what is his excuse for all of the non-car-related crimes in Chicago, including the city’s 391 homicides this year? Johnson has proven himself laughably weak on crime, even more so than could have been predicted before he took office. He has described gangs of roving criminals vandalizing and robbing businesses and assaulting people as just being “silly” and criticized other people for “demonizing” them. He dismisses mob actions by adolescent criminals by saying that they are simply “large gatherings” and that “we’re not talking about mob actions.
You can only imagine who Johnson will inevitably blame for the city’s murders and other crimes that he is all too happy to ignore because the criminals are never to blame in his worldview. There may be no other mayor in the country more clearly undeserving of the job than Johnson is in Chicago.
