Police taped off the busy road after the fatal crash yesterday afternoon
The fatal smash happened at the junction of Radcliffe New Road and Bury New Road in the Whitefield area at around 1.30pm yesterday . Police taped off a large stretch of the busy road, while a screen was put up next to a lorry which was pictured inside the cordon.
In an update issued this morning, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a 55-year-old man sadly died at the scene. The driver remained on the scene to assist police with their investigations, the spokesperson added.A statement posted on the GMP Bury North Facebook page this morning said: "GMP collision investigators are appealing for information after a pedestrian died in Bury.
Janet Wain, a neighbour on Radcliffe New Road, said: "It's shocking, honest to god the amount of accidents. It needs something doing to it, 20mph or whatever. The houses actually shake." Officers are continuing to urge any witnesses of the crash, or anyone who has CCTV or dashcam footage, to come forward.
