A Queens police officer is hospitalized at this hour after being shot on Tuesday afternoon, it was reported.
The injured officer is currently in stable condition at Jamaica Hospital, according to Fabien Levy, Mayor Eric Adams’ press secretary. The mayor is en route to the hospital to visit the officer and is expected to address the press later this evening.
The shooting occurred at about 3:25 p.m. on April 5 near the corner of 161st Street and 89th Avenue, just down the block from the Growing Up Green Charter School, in theSources familiar with the case said the officer suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, and was quickly transported to Jamaica Hospital for treatment.
At least one perpetrator has been picked up in connection with the shooting, sources said. Another remains at large. Charges against the apprehended suspect are pending the results of the ongoing investigation.A massive police presence has converged upon the Jamaica area immediately near the crime scene, according to the Citizen app.
