Many midcareer female politicians are quitting rather than run in next month’s British election
LONDON—As Britain embarks on a high-stakes national election campaign, an unusually high number of midcareer women are quitting politics, saying anger over Brexit and virulent online abuse are staining British political life.
Nineteen female lawmakers have so far said they won’t contest their seats in a nationwide ballot Dec. 12. Most are either retiring after years of public service or have decided to pursue new careers or gain more time with their families.
