Gabby Petito's parents, Joseph Petito and Nichole Schmidt, sued Brian Laundrie's parents, Christopher and Roberta Laundrie, after the Brian's remains were discovered in an area where the FBI reported he'd died as a result of suicide. Possessions found near his body contained a journal admitting to Gabby's murder.
As is usually the case in out-of-court settlements, the terms of the proposed agreement were available to the public. The settlements are believed to be independent of each other. Brian Laundrie and Gabby Petito were engaged and traveled by van across the U.S. in the summer of 2021, visiting scenic places in Colorado and Utah before heading north. They documented their trip in detail, in real time, on social media.
