The passenger jet was cruising at 37,000ft over the Andaman Sea off the coast of Myanmar when it was struck by the extreme weather

A British national has tragically died after a Singapore Airlines flight experienced severe turbulence at 37,000ft above Bangkok amidst thunderstorms.

Social media was flooded with images showing the cabin's damaged ceiling and the chaotic scene of food, utensils, and other items scattered across the floor following the incident. The Boeing 777-300ER jet, which took off at 10.17pm on Monday from London Heathrow, had to be diverted to Bangkok, where it landed at 3.45pm local time on Tuesday.

The airline confirmed the distressing news: "We can confirm that there are injuries and one fatality on board. Singapore Airlines offers its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. Our priority is to provide all possible assistance to all passengers and crew on board the aircraft.", reports the Mirror.
