The body of the 63-year-old, who has not been named, was found at her villa in Orihuela, a resort with the second highest population of British residents in Spain
“We are gathering information about case which appears to be one of domestic violence,” she told reporters.
The death of the British woman brings to 11 the number of women who have been killed in cases of domestic violence in Spain this year. Some 1,195 women have been killed by their partners since records first began in 2003. Spain’s avowedly feminist left-wing coalition government has made tackling offences against women a priority.
