Residents in Athens are calling for 'new rules' amid an influx of tourism they say is engulfing the Greek capital and pushing locals out.
While this surge boosts the Greek economy, it has also sparked a major housing crisis in the capital city and puts strain on local resources, the Express reports.Shutters over shop fronts in Athens have recently been covered with graffiti that says: "No more tourism." Antonis Markopoulos, co-founder of real estate company Prosperity, admitted that finding value in the city is rare.
However, the Greek ombudsman last month called for urgent reform warning that the country needs to manage tourism in a more sustainable way and it must not "exhaust its potential".
