A 1-acre brush fire in Pacific Palisades is threatening homes. Los Angeles firefighters are responding.
Los Angeles firefighters responded about 10:40 a.m. to a brush fire around 500 N. Palisades Drive. The terrain-driven fire is moving uphill toward homes, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey. The size of the fire has grown to 30 acres, officials said.
The homes threatened were on Charmel Lane, where the fire was running uphill. Some residents fled the neighborhood in cars. Others were out on their decks with garden hoses, trying to protect their homes from advancing flames. Firefighters pulled hoses from trucks into backyards to defend homes. Television images showed residents running from the flames as the fire engulfed a tree in a backyard. At one point a resident quickly drove his car from his garage as flames hit his backyard.A large plume of smoke from the fire blanketed the region and was visible from Los Angeles International Airport.
