Trask and Mayfield will continue competing throughout training camp and the preseason.
Mayfield’s one-year contract indicates he isn’t viewed as a long-term solution. The Buccaneers are transitioning to a post-Brady plan. Trask remains under contract through 2023 and 2024 via his four-year cost-controlled rookie contract. There’s also value in figuring out Trask’s potentialTrask doesn’t have much experience despite entering his third professional campaign.
