Harvey Brown, from Bridgnorth, Shropshire, announced his surprise resignation as Welfare and Community Officer on social media pages.
A student union officer at the University of Cambridge who previously came under fire for liking a tweet that described the October 7 attacks by Hamas as a 'day of celebration' has resigned over the university's stance on Gaza.
He previously apologised and said he had reacted 'without fully thinking' after liking several tweets about Hamas' attack on Israel on October 7, including one which argued: 'The struggle for freedom is rarely bloodless and we shouldn't apologise for it.' Mr Brown said protests from students calling upon the university and SU to 'end the University's complicity in genocide' has been a test 'both organisations have failed'.
'As a community we must keep standing together against state-sanctioned violence, opposing racism, anti-semitism, and Islamophobia when we enounter them, showing up for our friends and neighbours'. A large number of students are currently camped outside King's College, in scenes similar to those seen in the United States
