Chorley planning projects: Camera to tackle 'parking abuse' at football club and new apartment plans
The traditional mill town, whose landscape was once dotted with factories, is home to around 119,000 people and secured its growth thanks to the Industrial Revolution. The town was also home to several coalfields and during the Second World War was home to the Royal Ordnance Factory.Chorley Council is tasked with assessing and deciding on the wide range of planning applications submitted across the borough. Here we take a look at some of the most recent proposals.
Meanwhile the owner of a car park next to Euxton Villa Football Club in Runshaw Hall Lane has submitted plans to install automatic number plate recognition cameras in a bid to tackle "car park abuse". The proposal includes a column-mounted camera along with electronic equipment. Permission for the development, which will not involve the historic former mill building, was signed off by Chorley Borough Council last year. Chorley-based FI Real Estate Management is responsible for the development, which will be the largest ever built by its construction arm, FI Construction.
The plans state: "The proposed replacement structure is to provide accommodation for a food hall which is intended to complement the existing restaurant and associated facilities. Furthermore, the construction of the east elevation of the replacement structure facing the existing car park creates the opportunity to extend the length of the elevation in order to create an entirely new façade and in doing so a fresher and more attractive image for the business.
The development was completed in 2011 with club bosses revealing in their application for a cafeteria that "the past decade has been a very successful period for Charnock Richard FC". The club plays in both the West Lancashire League and the North West Counties Football League and has won several league titles and cup competitions.
