“The neglect of certain government officials that led to voters receiving the wrong ballot was inexcusable, and we expected the committee to stand up for those voters and right this wrong,” Alabama GOP candidate Kimberly Butler said. alpolitics

with the party saying she had affidavits from 42 of those voters who said they would have voted for her if they had been correctly assigned to District 2.

Butler said the affidavits she gathered showed she should have finished second and been in the runoff against Harrison. She asked the party to hold another runoff between her and Harrison. “The neglect of certain government officials that led to voters receiving the wrong ballot was inexcusable, and we expected the committee to stand up for those voters and right this wrong,” Butler said in her statement. “Just a few days ago, Secretary of State John Merrill fired people in one county for the same thing. All we asked for was a new, lawful runoff so that Republican voters could decide their nominee. Obviously, we think this was a wrong decision.

Butler’s statement referred to Merrill’s decision to ask for and receive resignations of the three board of registrars members in Etowah County, where mistakes led to voters being wrongly assigned in House District 28 and House District 29. AL.com reached out to the three Etowah County board members about their resignations but has not received a response.
