Seven U.S. Capitol Police officers sued former President Donald Trump, his associate Roger Stone, the Proud Boys and others, saying they “propagated false claims of election fraud...and incited violence” against members of Congress and law enforcement
WASHINGTON—Seven U.S. Capitol Police officers sued former President Donald Trump and others, including nearly two dozen members of right-wing extremist groups and organizations, alleging they conspired to promote baseless claims of widespread election fraud that fomented the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol.
One Capitol Police officer who was sprayed with a chemical substance during the attack died the following day of natural causes, according to the District of Columbia medical examiner. Four other law enforcement officers who responded to the violence have died by suicide. In the lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, officers describe being beaten and pummeled by rioters and hit with batteries and harsh chemical sprays that caused their eyes to swell. Several Black officers said in the suit that members of the crowd shouted racial slurs at them.
