The landmark Captain America 750 is revealing not just the origin of Sam Wilson's new shield, but why he returned to the Captain America mantle.
The origin of Sam Wilson's Captain America shield is about to be revealed. Currently, both Captains America have been starring in Marvel's 'Cold War' story arc. In an attempt to stop a nefarious plot from Bucky Barnes, Steve Rogers has recruited Sam Wilson in hopes of hunting Bucky down and saving his son. The high stakes of the storyline are enough to put the two Captains America at odds, already forcing them to come to blows.
When the dust of the story settles, it'll be time for Marvel to release the milestone Captain America #750, featuring several stories from an all-star creative team and starring both Sam Wilson and Steve Rogers. In addition to providing fallout from the events of Cold War, Marvel promises that writer Tochi Onyebuchi and artist R.B. Silva will finally reveal the origins of Sam Wilson's new shield.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Sam Wilson's New Shield Finally Explained Close When Steve Rogers was first physically de-aged, he gifted both his mantle and the shield to Sam Wilson. Even when Steve returned to his signature physical prowess, becoming Cap again in the process, he asked Sam to keep the name, costume, and shield.
Sam's Captain America Gets a Second Origin Sam had a problematic debut as Captain America, partly because the brainwashed Steve Rogers was undermining him in secret and attempting to reclaim his shield. Now, with Sam Wilson back to being Captain America full time , Marvel has a chance to give him a second origin, explaining why he returned to the identity and what makes his shield so special other than its design, which honors Sam's past as Falcon by giving the center star 'wings.
Sam Wilson returning to an identity which effectively broke him is a huge move for the character, and Marvel will need a convincing reason he made the choice. Equally, Sam's shield will need an amazing backstory to match the mysterious origin of Steve's iconic weapon, which is only now being told in full. In waiting for this landmark issue to tell the story, it's fair to assume Marvel has something impressive in mind for Sam Wilson's official Captain America rebirth.
