Euphemia Ramsay was employed to look after very vulnerable children at a Renfrewshire care home, but instead she humiliated and abused them in a campaign of cruelty.

Euphemia Ramsay doled out her own vicious brand of discipline to the little boy and girl living in a children's home, where she was known as 'Auntie Effie'. Details of her cruel behaviour at the former Renfrewshire residential care facility emerged when she was brought to justice earlier this week.

But instead the youngsters were subjected to violence and humiliating punishments for bed-wetting and failing to finish meals. One victim as around six years old at the time, and gave evidence that he was abused at the home between 1969 and 1970, and explained that Ramsay would deliberately destroy his toys and possessions.Another told the jury about the treatment she endured at the hands of Ramsey between 1972 and 1973, when she was between eight and 10.

Procurator Fiscal for North Strathclyde, Peter McClelland, said: “Euphemia Ramsay was trusted to provide care for children who had already experienced difficulties in their lives.
