Sheena Clayton said it was only because one of her sons wanted something from the shop that she ventured out and bought a ticket at the local Tesco.

A fortunate carer from Northallerton has hit the jackpot, winning an eye-watering £110m in the EuroMillions, all thanks to her son's nudge to purchase a ticket. Sheena Clayton, 37, almost missed the chance to enter the draw on November 22 as she had just come off a night shift and was feeling exhausted.

The carer, who scooped the jackpot after matching the numbers: 10, 11, 12, 29, 31 and the Lucky Star, 8, checked her winning EuroMillions Lucky Dip ticket on her phone. "I just could not believe what I was seeing. I thought someone was just playing a joke on me – I went from screaming to crying to just feeling in total shock! It still hasn't sunk-in yet, and I just feel numb! ," she exclaimed.

"We are currently drawing up a list of all of the places we would like to visit. It is so exciting – this win has created so many opportunities for us as a family it is just fabulous.
