Carlos Carrasco’s season is over following a freak weight-room accident — and his Mets career also likely has come to an end.
The veteran right-hander was placed on the injured list Tuesday with a fractured fifth finger on his right hand. He broke the finger two days earlier when a 50-pound dumbbell landed on it, according to manager Buck Showalter.
The 36-year-old Carrasco, who will be a free agent after this season, was removed from the rotation last week because of poor performance and placed on waivers, but he went unclaimed. Carrasco posted a 6.80 ERA in 20 starts this season.
