There are Gods aplenty in the Marvel Universe, and the disturbing violence Carnage doles out has earned the insidious symbiote a spot among their ranks.
The symbiote Carnage has made gruesome, violent deaths his calling card, and that violence has earned him a high title in Marvel Comics. When a deranged murderer was confronted by the hyper-violent creature, he didn't recoil in terror or turn his gaze; Instead, he declared Carnage a God and offered himself as sacrifice.
In Carnage #1, by David Michelinie, Ram V., Ron Lim, and Francesco Manna, Carnage's story picks up after he and his longtime host, Cletus Kasady, separated, leaving the symbiote to his own devices. Meanwhile, serial killer Kenneth Neely, going by the moniker"The Artist," wants to become Carnage's next host.
In the Marvel Universe,"God" is a tricky term. While beings like Thor and Loki are considered gods of thunder and trickery, respectively, it's widely known that they aren't immortal or all-knowing, like real-life people often see their Gods. Even beings of a higher order, like Celestials and the Watchers, are often referred to as"Gods" by other incredibly powerful beings, but even they can be killed.
While Carnage ultimately rejects The Artist's offer to be his next host, it's unlikely Neely has any regrets in calling for Carnage's attention. In a place where Gods fly through the sky on a daily basis, leaving both miracles and torment in their path, Carnage has taken his twisted, disturbing place among the Marvel Universe's most powerful beings.
