Private messages between Simon Case, who is the top civil servant, Mr Johnson’s then-adviser Dominic Cummings and the director of communications Lee Cain have been shown to the inquiry today. Responding to messages stating a circuit breaker was being considered, Mr Cain wrote: “Sigh. Wtf are we talking about.”Mr Case then jokes that he will tell the Select Committee of MPs that it is not Mr Cummings pulling the strings behind the Prime Minister but Mrs Johnson. “The real person in charge is Carrie,” he said.“They cannot understand priorities. They didn’t even understand what they were talking about for most of this meeting,” Mr Cummings said.
