CCS softball playoffs: Santa Teresa’s bats go cold in the Division III championship at West Valley College
SARATOGA – Santa Teresa’s hitters had no issue getting the ball into West Valley College’s seats during Saturday morning’s Central Coast Section Division III title game.
“What we normally do with our bats, well that didn’t happen today,” Santa Teresa coach Michaela Motch said. Santa Teresa’s Mariah Avalos started the bottom of the second with a hit through the left side of the infield, and Keira Leong drew a walk. The team that won CCS Division I last season knew how to remain calm though, and worked out of the jam.
Everett Alvarez extended its lead to 4-0 before senior Gianna Martinico put a ball in play that was mishandled by the defense in the fifth inning. After Alvarez’s Crystal Vasquez singled in a run in the top of the sixth, junior Mariah Avalos led off the bottom of the inning with a home run.
