Last year, the CDC released new guidelines for how doctors should prescribe opioids, encouraging physicians to focus on the individual needs of patients. But some doctors worry the new recommendations may be too little, too late for some patients.
Jessica Layman estimates she has called more than 150 doctors in the past few years in her search for someone to prescribe opioids for her chronic pain.
Layman has tried a host of non-opioid treatments to help with the intense daily pain caused by double scoliosis, a collapsed spinal disc, and facet joint arthritis.
