The Merced County Sheriff's Office says 48-year-old Jesus Manuel Salgado, the person of interest, is in the hospital in critical condition after trying to "take his own life" before they tracked him down. Warnke said the kidnapper took the family from a business in the city of Merced, but that he has made no ransom demands or contact of any kind.
