Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness claimed Chelsea owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital are more suited to building a new stadium than dealing with transfers., the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the US private equity billionaires are “the wrong group to handle a football team”.
It is claimed discussions have been held with Transport for London, one of the partners that looks after the Earl’s Court site, and real estate developer Delancey. Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over at Chelsea in 2022 and have since spent more than £1billion on transfer deals – despite not achieving a top-four finish in that time.
