Shares of Chesapeake Energy Corp. CHK, -3.81% dropped 6.1% in premarket trade Wednesday, after the oil and natural gas company reported a wider first-quarter loss and revenue that fell short of expectations. The net loss widened to $44 million, or 3 cents a share, from $6 million, or 1 cent a share, in the same period a year ago. Excluding non-recurring items, the adjusted loss was 2 cents a share, or earnings of 14 cents "under full cost.
