The Hocking County Sheriff’s Office says the cage was filled with bugs and soiled bedding. A second infant was found walking around the home while holding a meth pipe, officials say.
LOGAN, Ohio — The parents and grandmother of a 3-year-old child are facing criminal charges after authorities found the child locked in a cage in a home that reportedly was in “deplorable condition.”
The parents, Franklin “TJ” Varney, 38, and Megan Smith, 25, both of Logan both have been charged with endangering children, a third-degree felony, according to Hocking County Sheriff’s Office. The grandmother, Ella Webb, 61, of Logan, also has been charged with endangering children. Sheriff’s detectives and members of the Logan-Hocking Special Response Team went to the residence Sunday in connection with accusations of sexual assault, the department says. When they arrived, they found the 3-year-old in a cage that was locked with zip ties.
