EXCLUSIVE: Kirsty McNeill warned Scots were now 'paying the price' for the SNP's 'past incompetence and recklessness' in handling its finances.
Child poverty is being fuelled by the "scandal" of low pay which leaves families unable to make ends meet, a Scottish Labour minister has warned.
McNeill, the new MP for Midlothian, said today: "The sustainable way for families to get out of poverty is to make sure they have enough money going into their pocket from their jobs." "There is no doubt the economic inheritance the new Labour Government has received is appalling, with a £22 billion blackhole," she said. "In year, the Treasury reserves were spent three times over. The Chancellor has had to make incredibly tough choices in dealing with that.
Asked about the future of the two-child cap, McNeill said: "The UK Government has announced a child poverty tax force on which the Secretary of State for Scotland, Ian Murray, is sitting. And that's trying to look at child poverty in the round.
