EXCLUSIVE: As relatives gather to mark their daughter turning one, Chloe Madeley and James Haskell chat to OK! about how they've adapted to life as a family of three
It’s been a year since Chloe Madeley and James Haskell’s daughter Bodhi was born – and they can’t quite believe how quickly the time has galloped by.Chloe agrees, adding, “It feels like yesterday she was a newborn but, at the same time, I don’t remember it and it’s like another lifetime ago. It gives you a really strange concept of time.”
James, who at one point in mock dismay points out that the kids went “completely mad” running around the house fuelled by a sugar rush, is full of praise for his wife. “She pushed her little fingers in the cake and then she looked at it, tried a bit of it and then it was over. She didn’t want to do the full cake smash. She’s no daughter of mine!” Chloe says, laughing.“I didn’t want to give her any presents,” admits James. “I just wanted to give her a big box with wrapping paper on the outside and wrapping paper on the inside because that’s what she’s more interested in, but I was told I was being a Scrooge.
“I’m so lucky that I never had any baby blues or postnatal depression. People often talk about how hard it is all the time and, don’t get me wrong, it’s exhausting and relentless but I wouldn’t call it hard. It’s actually really fun. For me, I feel like it’s come quite naturally.” Chloe and James have a nanny a couple of days a week, which they say has helped the situation massively.
“Bodhi is their fourth grandchild and there’s a fifth one on the way as my brother’s partner is having a baby. Bodhi’s a very active child. She wants to get up, she wants to move,” Chloe says. “If you try to confine her, she’s not a happy girl. And we got a little taste of what’s in store, with the film crew joining us on the day of our OK! shoot.
While the past 12 months have been a roller-coaster ride for Chloe and James, the couple are in a really good place. During our shoot, they’re relaxed and happy – and clearly doting parents to Bodhi.
