Former left winger and enforcer Chris Simon died at the age of 52. The NHL and several of his former teams confirmed the news Tuesday. The 15-year NHL veteran of Ojibwe descent played for seven franchises including the Quebec Nordiques and , the , the , the , the , the and the . The drafted Simon with the 25th pick in 1990 and traded him to Quebec as part of the seismic Eric Lindros deal that sent the center to Philadelphia.
Advertisement Simon also scored 10 goals in 75 career playoff games, five coming in the Flames’ 2004 run to the Stanley Cup Final. He played 18 playoff games for the Capitals during their 1998 run to the final. But the Wawa, Ont., native won a Cup with the Avalanche in 1996, the franchise’s inaugural season after moving from Quebec City.
