Superman '78 Is Grounded in Real World History The Richard Donner series of Superman films kicked off with 1978’s Superman and stretched through 1987’s much-maligned Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. Superman ‘78: The Metal Curtain will address the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union, which was ongoing at the time.
