Circularity Scotland has sent staff home and said they may not be paid this month.
But a week agoCircular Economy Minister Lorna Slater said she had been left with no choice after the UK government excluded glass from the Scottish scheme.It said: "The board of Circularity Scotland have been working to manage the impact of the Scottish government's announcement and find a way for the business to continue to operate.
The DRS was designed to improve recycling rates for certain bottles and cans by providing a financial incentive to recycle and pick up litter. Circularity Scotland Ltd was set up in 2021 as a not-for-profit company to administer the scheme, funded by drinks producers.Circular Economy Minister Lorna Slater said she had been left with no choice but to delay the scheme further
It was approved as administrator of the scheme by the Scottish government in 2021, with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency giving its operating plan the go-ahead the following year.
