Elizabeth Huff, Sugar Land director of economic development, said the city values the arts and has been working to beautify its spaces while also supporting area artists who have been heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Through joining with organizations like Nike, the University of Houston and various nonprofits, Sugar Land supported 24 artists and commissioned 17 creative projects during 2021.
Huff said the city wanted to come up with creative ways to get people excited and ready to see some baseball this year. The Space Cowboys’ Triple-A affiliation with a Major League team less than 25 miles away has boosted the Sugar Land economy, Huff said, because Astros fans are coming out to Constellation Field to watch, especially when Astros players join the team for a few games.
