The G’s own a seven-game lead in the division over the White Sox. It’s their biggest lead of the season. The Guardians took a 1-0 lead on a two-out bunt single by Andres Gimenez in the first inning off Cueto . Jose Ramirez reached on an infield single to third. Josh Naylor sent him to third on a single to right and Gimenez executed a perfect hit to third that Yoan Moncada overran.
The Guardians made it 2-1 in the third when Amed Rosario beat out an infield hit to short. On Cueto’s errant pickoff attempt, Rosario sprinted to third where Ramirez scored him with a sacrifice fly. It was the first of two sacrifice flies by Ramirez who has 117 RBI for the season. Ramirez’s previous career high was 105 RBI in 2018.
Bieber allowed two runs on seven hits in 7 2/3 innings. He has won his last four starts, while posting a 1.50 ERA. He is 8-4 against Chicago in his career.
