Cleveland Heights Mayor Kahlil Seren plans to “take a look at the city’s Fair Practices Code” to add any necessary protections for parochial school students who may run afoul of a recent edict from the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland.

The Cleveland Heights Fire Department and EMS Division recently completed its voluntary five-year recertification process for the "ReadyCertify" program, administered by the Cuyahoga County Office of Emergency Management . Participating cities adopt a set of performance standards in line with national best practices for local emergency preparedness. Cleveland Heights Interim Fire Chief Jim Harry, center, received a ReadyCertify plaque at the Sept.

During the mayor’s remarks at the Sept. 18 City Council meeting, Seren reiterated the city’s standing motto that “‘All Are Welcome’ in Cleveland Heights, especially our most vulnerable youth.”” under the city’s Fair Practices Code may be a criminal violation.on LGBTQ+ pride, pronouns, gender-affirming health care, nicknames, clothing, school admission and extracurriculars.

“We care about all of our kids, and when they’re in our city, they’re our kids,” Seren said. “In Cleveland Heights, we don’t tolerate hate. We don’t put people in closets here.”
