CLEVELAND, Ohio - The city of Cleveland is experiencing a critical shortage of police officers, sparking massive amounts of overtime to be paid to the department.
“We don’t have that right now, we’re nowhere near close,” said Jones. “So, if I can’t see you, if I can’t touch you, then you don’t exist.” During the Public Safety Committee meeting, outside law enforcement agencies discussed their latest efforts to help CPD beef up its patrols. However, that’s only a temporary fix.
Since January, it lost 128 officers, and has only managed to hire 28. So, compared to what they’re budgeted for, the CPD is down a total of 424 officers.
