Alan Crossan hopes Glasgow can emulate Manchester and Liverpool.
The owner of the Clutha bar has revealed bold plans to create an outdoor pub on the banks of the River Clyde . Alan Crossan says he wants Glasgow to follow similar ex industrial cities in England by having a bustling waterside hospitality scene.
"This would be for them and hopefully we can attract new people too. You look at places like Salford Quays in Manchester which 30 years ago was pretty lifeless after the docks stopped being used. "That said, visitors to Glasgow have asked me in the past where the bars are on the Clyde and are amazed there aren't any. We hope the Clutha's plans can be the start of something to change this."

Last year he revealed how he wants to rebuild the Clutha, where ten people died in a helicopter crash in 2013, and expand it into a cultural hub. His proposals include a 2,000 sq ft speakeasy-style bar in the basement.
The first floor will be turned into office space alongside spaces for music, art or drama classes. Also proposed are 120 to 140 serviced apartments which will be rented out.
