He's under contract for another year, but it's possible he won't be back
At a men’s basketball game back in November, USD Executive Director of Athletics Bill McGillis told a reporter he wouldn’t discuss head coach Sam Scholl’s future until the season was over.
It’s difficult to imagine that after a 14-15 regular season that the athletic director hasn’t made up his mind about his head coach. So the question begs being asked: in this, his fourth season, is Scholl possibly coaching his final game at USD?Scholl, 44, said he is under contract for next season. He’s aware about speculation regarding his job. He said has not logged onto Twitter much this season and limited his contact with fellow coaches to avoid rumors about his security.
Scholl was appointed USD’s interim coach at the end of the 2017-18 regular season when his predecessor, Lamont Smith, was placed on administrative leave after being arrested on suspicion of domestic violence. “I’ve dreamed since high school of being a head men’s basketball coach,” Scholl said the day his hiring was announced. “I never thought in my wildest dreams that it would be .”
The Toreros closed the regular season losing six of seven, all six losses by double figures. USD was 0-8 against the top half of the league.
