Denver's first snow storm is near— and the City is prepared, snow plows and all.
The National Weather Service and the Colorado Department of Transportation urged travelers to slow down and use extra caution.
The Colorado State Patrol said conditions are affecting travel throughout the Front Range. The snow is freezing along Interstate 25 and C-470. CSP said Clear Creek Canyon is closed between Golden and Colorado 119 due to icy conditions and crashes. Reports were also coming in about a crash on U.S. 6 between the bottom of Floyd Hill and the Colorado 119 junction, CSP said.
Colorado 119 is closed due to a multi-vehicle crash between U.S. 6 and Black Hawk. CSP said drivers should put off traveling to the gambling towns. Several places are on accident alert including unincorporated areas of Douglas, Jefferson, Clear Creek, Gilpin, Douglas and western Arapahoe counties, as well as the cities of Castle Rock and Centennial.
A traction law is in effect on Interstate 70 and U.S. 285. A chain law is in effect for both directions of Interstate 70 from Golden to Idaho Springs, as well as U.S. 285 from Morrison to Pine Junction.Commercial vehicles and trucks must have chains. Vehicles without chains can often lose traction, causing traffic delays and sometimes road closures. For the safety of the traveling public, it's critical to use chains to comply with Colorado's chain law.
