Within an hour, more than 700 turkeys were distributed Monday to families across Columbus by city police officers and local organizations.
People at the South Linden location seeking free turkeys formed a drive-through, with officers handing residents turkeys and gloves and pillows.
Chris Thomas, 30, said the free turkey he received will help him to have the first Thanksgiving family dinner since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020. Some other recipients, Coleman said, were picking up free turkeys to bring to other people who couldn’t make it out to the distribution. Community liaison officers also set aside some turkeys and took them along with all the fixings to some of South Linden’s homebound residents.
