Columbus police homicide detectives have identified a 16-year-old male who was shot to death Saturday during an argument.

Detectives and the Franklin County Coroner's office identified the victim, Jarrell M. Russell, using fingerprints and tracked his last known residence to an apartment from which the family had recently been evicted.

Columbus police responded just after 3:30 p.m. Saturday to the shooting in the 100 block of North Guilford Avenue. Columbus Division of Fire paramedics pronounced the teen dead at abut 3:48 p.m. A preliminary investigation indicates the shooting stemmed from an argument with another person, detectives said in a news release. The name of the other person involved in the argument, whom police are calling a person of interest, was being withheld Tuesday pending further investigation.

Homicide Det. Art Hughes said there are a number of witnesses who have been interviewed, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact police at 614-645-2177.
