He had reportedly been in poor health for several weeks.
No cause was given for Cooper’s death, but his personal assistant, Steve Garrin, told EW that he died Tuesday at home in Las Vegas. Garrin told EW that Cooper had “a lot of healthy problems” and knew the end was near.
Garrin credited Cooper’s wife, Emily Conner, with saying that despite all of that, the funny man kept the jokes coming right up until his days on this Earth were done.He played himself on “The Friars Club” episode of “Seinfeld,” but that came long after the comedian had already made his name. His big break, per EW, came in 1963 on “The Jackie Gleason Show,” and then he started opening for Sinatra in Vegas. He also opened for Bobby Darin, Tony Bennett, Jerry Lewis and Sammy Davis Jr.
